Benefits of Vertical Farming

By 2050, the human population is expected to reach nearly 10 billion people, and food production will need to double to keep up with demand. As agriculture today consumes 70% of the world’s available water, a step change in efficiency is required to produce food in a more sustainable way.
Sprout Stack’s approach to fresh produce farming is designed to ease the seasonal and environmental challenges the world encounters daily by producing nutritious, leafy greens locally year-round. We’re committed to researching, comprehending, and improving all aspects of indoor farming to bring better produce to our communities.
A vertically oriented farm produces more output per square foot of land utilised, resulting in greater crop yield. Vertical farms are mostly found indoors, such as a warehouses like ours, where they can regulate the environmental conditions for plants to grow. The primary goal of vertical farming is maximising produce output in a limited space.
Water and Land Usage
Water is recycled and reused, resulting in a 95% water use reduction compared to traditional systems. The use of land is up to 100x more efficient thanks to our stacked system and multiple crop rotations in a year.
Less Food Miles
Growing local reduces the cost and environmental impact of transporting food for long distances. It also translates into fresher, more nutritious salads that last longer in your fridge.
Food Security
Producing consistently high quality and quantity crops, in any location and unaffected by extreme weather events such as floods, droughts and bushfires.
Pesticides
Crops are never exposed to any pesticides, either organic or chemical, producing the cleanest greens possible as well as eliminating chemical runoff into water streams.

Less Food Waste
There is enough food produced in the world to feed everyone, however one third of all food produced is lost or wasted. This figure is almost 50% for fruit and vegetables. 8% of greenhouse gas emissions are caused by food waste. This is why we believe that reducing food waste to the minimum is key to making our food system sustainable.
